Welcome to the 2011 Ski For Cancer Silent Auction.  Ski for Cancer is an annual fund raising event run by the Psi Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI.   Proceeds from Ski For Cancer are donated to the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MAAC Fund).  The Ski for Cancer Proceeds are passed through MAAC to the Carbone Cancer Center at the University of Wisconsin to be used for research into pediatric cancer and blood disorders.

Ski for Cancer was run at Cascade Mountain in Portage, WI on March 5, 2011.  This silent auction is for two vacation/golf packages contributed by Psi chapter alumni.

History

Ski for Cancer was run for the first time in the spring of 1967.  It ran annually till the mid-1990s when the Psi Chapter went of campus due to membership decline.  Over the years, Ski for Cancer raised over $250,000. 

The Psi chapter was brought back on the UW campus in 2009, first as an interest group then as a colony.  It will achieve full chapter status on April 2 of 2011.  Ski for Cancer returned in February of 2010 at Tyrol Basin.  It raised $15,500 for cancer research.  Our expectations for Ski for Cancer 2011 are much higher.  With your help we hope to double last year's contribution.

The Auction

This silent auction will run through Tuesday March 22 at 9:00 PM Central.  Bids should be submitted via email to tfarin@farin.com (Tom Farin).  In your initial bid please provide contact information - name. address, and phone.  As bids come in you will be notified via e-mail as to your bid status.  As this is a volunteer activity, please allow a reasonable amount of time for the response.

High bid will be posted to the page containing the information on the vacation/golf package.  An e-mail will be broadcast containing auction status daily - more frequently as the auction end approaches.

Payment by auction winner may be made by check (preferred) or by PayPal.  Should the high bidder not make payment, we will offer the package to the next highest bidder at their bid price.

The Beneficiaries

Funds raised will pass through the MAAC Fund to the Carbone Cancer Center at the UW.  Here is the letter authorizing us to run this auction on behalf of the MAAC Fund by their Executive Director, John Cary.

As John Cary's letter indicates, proceeds from Ski for Cancer will be passed through to the Carbone Cancer Center's MAAC Fund Childhood Cancer Research wing of the Wisconsin Interdisciplinary Medical Research Center (WIMR).
