SteamClass 2004 Archive

Target Audience

This archive was created to support those bashing the Accucraft Ruby into prototype locomotives or freelance locomotives as part of SteamClass 2004. However, anyone wishing to build a small locomotive based on a 0-4-0 wheel arrangement will find this archive to be useful.

Archive Organization

This archive is organized by builder, then engine class within builder. Once we get down to the engine class, individual prototypes will be shown. Check the menu in the top left corner for the page for the builder who's engines you wish to examine. The link will take you to a page with additional information on how the manufacturer's engines are organized.

In the initial phase of the development of the archive, focus will be on narrow gauge engines with x-4-x wheel arrangements with drivers in the size range of the Accucraft Ruby in 3'0" and meter scale. As the archive evolves, and as we become aware of modelers desiring information on engines outside this range, these restrictions will be eased.

Accucraft Ruby Dimensions

The following table gives Accucraft Ruby dimensions with a tip of the hat to Vance Bass for providing the Ruby takeoffs. I have converted them to their prototype dimensions using common garden railroad scales. Two tables are presented, one in English and the other in Metric measures. As the archive contains a fair amount of detail on actual prototype dimensions, these tables should be handy should you wish to determine how closely your Ruby engine measurements match the prototype.
