Bachmann Spectrum 4-4-0

Engine
This 1:20.3 engine is a 4-4-0 modeled from the general time
period of Baldwin Class 8-16C which was first produced in the 1870s. It is
a highly detailed replica of engines of that class. It is a great base for
super detailing a specific prototype of that era. This engine was produced
by Bachmann in the early 2000s and was closed out in 2003. It is not known
whether an additional run will occur. While this engine listed at around
$700, it was not uncommon to find them for sale at the end of the closeout
period for $200 - $250.
Drive Train & Chassis
It is not known whether this chassis is available separately
from the engine. Even if available, it is likely the price would approach
that of the complete engine at close out prices. You might ask, "why
would you destroy a perfectly good highly detailed Spectrum 4-4-0 to get the
chassis?" This highly detailed component may be worth $200-$250 by
itself. The tender, boiler and cab can be redirected to another
project. If this drive's specifications meet your needs and you are
looking for a medium duty drive train, this chassis may fit your needs.
As the photo shows, the motor block is integrated in the
chassis. A complete chassis includes the front deck, front 4 wheel truck,
cylinders and valve gear, the driver block and side rods, and the rear frame and
coupler. Valve gear and side rods are metal and fully operational.
