Sausalito Yard & Maintenance Facility

This facility was the home shops of the NPC.  For a small narrow gauge line, the facilities were extensive.  Two locomotives were built by the NPC in these shops.

Prototype

The following map shows the Sausalito Shops in 1890.  The main line exiting the bottom of the drawing headed to the docks.  The line exiting the top headed north.

This is a photo of the portion of Sausalito containing the shops and yards around 1915.

 Model Railroad

This portion of the railroad will be modeled in the metal shed. The following plan shows the track layout for the shop and yards.

The shop area runs up the left side of this drawing.  Shop trackage is in yellow.  This is a partial representation of the prototype's shop area trackage and facilities.  Arrangement is different than in the prototype because of table width limitations.  The dark green line is the main line.  The dotted dark green line is the under tabletop ramp taking trains from table level on the island to the staging area on the other side of the layout.

Structures are the major yard structures serving narrow gauge engines and later standard gauge engines (after the railroad became part of the Northwestern Pacific).
