Phase 2 - Winter 2003-4
Construction will focus on the indoor portion of the layout. In this
segment, benchwork and the minimum trackage needed to operate this segment will
be constructed and wired. A substantial amount of work will be required the indoor
train room. As a result it is likely that little more than benchwork and
main tracks will be installed and operational in this phase. This trackage will model the following
portions of the NPC line.
 | Sausalito Docks - These are the docks from which NPC steamers arrived from
and departed to San Francisco. This segment is a significant switching
facility terminating in a single track to the Sauselito yard and maintenance
facility. These docks will be executed as closely to the prototype as
possible using this drawing and photos obtained from a variety of sources.
|
 | Sausalito Yard & Shops - This was the home base of the
North Pacific Coast. The shops were state of the art for the
time. The NPC built two of its engines at this facility. From the
shops, the main line will extend north to the staging
area for the outdoor portion of the layout and run through the wall outdoors
to the portion of the layout constructed in Phase 1. This portion will
be modeled as closely to the prototype as possible using this drawing and a
number of photos of shop structures.
|
 | Sausalito to Mill Valley Junction -
this is the indoor portion of the main line exiting the Shops. It
loops around then drops down a ramp to the staging area and exits to the
outside of the layout. |
The following drawing is the proposed plan for the portion of the layout
inside the shed. Main lines are in dark gray. Dotted dark gray lines
run under the benchwork surface and allow for continuous loop
running. They also provide an interchange with the outside portion of the
layout by running through the wall in the lower left corner of the drawing.
Light gray lines are yard and switching trackage. Major structures are
identified.
