H. K. Porter Locomotives

These are the current photos of Porter locomotives in the archive.  Porter began building little industrial locomotives in 1906 under the name Smith & Porter.  The name was changed Porter Bell, and Company in 1871 and to H. K, Porter in 1899. 

This is an 1882  Porter 0-4-2 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.  The Joe Douglas.

Mount Tamalpais & Muir Woods No 6, a 0-4-0T Porter.  Built in 1906 and scrapped in 1944.

Northern Pacific No 1 the Minnetonka, a Porter 0-4-0 located in Duluth, MN.  Built by Smith & Porter in 1870.

An 1882 Porter 0-4-0  narrow gauge steam train locomotive from Phelps Dodge’s Morenci mine.  Now at the Arizona Mining & Mineral Museum.

Hilda - built in 1899 by Porter to 3'6" gauge  for the Kauri Freehold Gold Estates, Whangapoua, New Zealand.  Served from 1902-1907, Grand Junction Mine, Waihi.  On  Nov 17, 1908 destroyed by fire.

The Eureka Mill RR was a 30" narrow gauge line located in Nevada. It ran for a little over a mile transporting silver ore from the Virginia & Truckee RR at Santiago to the Eureka Mill.  This is Eureka Mill No 1, a Porter
