In this section, I'll discuss projects that are completed or underway.  In one major section, you will find engine projects related to my railroad, the North Pacific Coast.  Other projects don't fit, but are of sufficient interest that they will appear as visiting engines on the NPC.

Generally, my engine projects move through five steps:
bulletPrototype research - this is something I really enjoy so you may see many projects that have been researched but not begun.  Where possible, I'll cite research resources.  In some cases, research has been performed by others.  They will be credited with their contributions.  Research will generally include prototype photos, builder specifications as well as commentary relating to the prototype.
bulletDefining the project - I will describe generally how I'd attack the project including an overview of the modifications to be made as part of kitbash projects or the materials to be used in scratch build projects.
bulletDrive Train selection and construction - Where a model or drive train has been used as a starting point, I'll indicate why I selected the model and compare its dimensions to prototype dimensions.  Then I'll show the steps in modifying the drive train to reach the point of moving on to the next step.
bulletSuperstructure modifications - These are modifications to boiler, cab, domes, stack, and tender needed to bring the model in line with the prototype.  Some modifications require minor bashes to the superstructure components.  Others require the components be scratch built.
bulletDetailing - This gets to piping and appliances as well as paint and decals.

This page will list all projects underway even if they haven't gone beyond the first or second step.  Projects currently underway are listed as hyperlinks in the upper left corner of this page.  I'll probably never get beyond step two on many of these projects.  Given my love of research, I generally complete step one as quickly as I can after becoming excited about a project.  Many will be completed through step two.  That means I'm always likely to have a number of projects lined up that I won't get to for a while.

Feel free to take advantage of this research.  It won't bother me at all if you finish a project based on my research before I get around to it.  In fact, I'd love to have photos and a description of your bash.  With your permission, I'll add your to the project to 'build out' unfinished projects.
