No 1 Boiler

Prototype Dimensions
The following table shows takeoff dimensions for major boiler
components including the stack, tank, and steam dome. The fire box in this
unusual locomotive extended down only to the base of the boiler in order to
provide clearance for the rear drivers.

The Boiler
The boiler length given in the table is from the front of the
smoke box to the cab. I added 0.58 inches to the converted length
(5.42") to deal with the fact the wheelbase of the Lehmann Porter is 0.29
inches longer than the prototype and to allow the firebox to protrude slightly
into the cab. Converted Diameter is 1.38". I found a pipe
normally used for drain traps with a diameter of 1.48". I cut it to
6" length.

The Tank
I decided to build the saddle tank with a styrene frame and a
sheet brass exterior.
 |
The frame and outside sheet. I used my drill press with a dull
finish nail to emboss the rivits.

This is a nearly complete saddle tank. There's a little gap
filling to do. After I glued on the bottom brass sheet, i realized
i should probably fill her with lead. So I'll poke a few holes in
the bottom side.
Then off to the paint shop.
